Imran should air his grievances in parliament: Khursheed Shah

SUKKUR: Oppostion Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah has said that Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf’s chief Imran Khan should play his constitutional role in the parliament.
Speaking to media representatives at his residence on Tuesday, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader urged the PTI chairman to come to sessions of the National Assembly and put forth his proposals for improvement in the electoral system.
Earlier, Shah had told reporters in Jacobabad that every political party had the right to protest against the government within the perimeters set by the Constitution.
Shah’s statements come as Imran Khan continues to make calls for the so-called “Azadi March” on August 14 in opposition to what he calls the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz’s rigging of the May 2013 general elections.
On a question relating to PPP’s Asif Ali Zardari’s visit to the US, Shah said it should not be seen as something out of the ordinary and that the trip had been planned and was part of a routine.
He said Zardari’s visit to America should not be politicised.
The opposition leader urged the government to talk to political forces and address their grievances, adding that the present government should be allowed to complete its five-year term.
Responding to another question, Shah said there was no reality behind the rumours of removing Syed Qaim Ali Shah from the office of Sindh Chief Minister, adding that Qaim will remain in office.

PPP opposes downsizing in PIA

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party has strongly reacted to a statement of Privatisation Commission Chaiman Mohammad Zubair regarding downsizing in Pakistan International Airlines and described it an anti-workers policy of the government.
PPP provincial president Khanzada Khan said in a statement here on Monday that his party would strongly oppose the government’s policy regarding retrenchment of 50 per cent employees of PIA.
“The ruling party has started looting national institutions by sacking the employees at its free will but PPP is there to raise voice against the injustices,” he said.
Mr Khan said that it was on record that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz had always sacked the employees of different departments and accommodated its own people in violation of the rules and regulations.
“History is witness that PPP has always recruited people, mainly the poor, and PML-N has sacked them whenever it came into power,” he said.
The PPP, Mr Khan said, was not opposed to privatisation policy rather it supported the supervision of private sector but it did not mean to destroy the entire industrial sector at the hands of few blue-eyed persons.
The industrial sector in the country, he said, was already in bad condition due to energy crisis.
If the owners continued sacking employees, the ratio of unemployment would increase manifold and no government would control it in future.
The PPP leader said that government should discourage the cartels, which were active to deprive consumers of their due rights. “Keeping in view the miserable condition of the institutions like MCB, UBL, KESC and stories of corruption in these, the government should avoid privatization and retrenchment otherwise the people would take to the streets against it,” he added.
Mr Khan suggested that the government should form a high level parliamentary committee to review the performance of the so far privatised institutions so that it could proceed with its planning otherwise it should stop privatisation and retrenchment.

Mian Manzoor Wattoo predicts early demise of govt due to unabated torturous load shedding

Pakistan People’s Party will not tolerate the unabated torturous load shedding of electricity of 16 to 18 hours and will confront the ruling Party for its abject failure despite its tall claims, said Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President Punjab PPP, in a statement issued from the Party Secretariat today.

He predicted that the unbearable load shedding of electricity in the country would push government’s early demise because the people had lost all hopes of their ability to get rid them of the menace.

He pointed out that the farmers in the country were most hit because they were paying more for the electricity which was not available and the agriculture produce had been suffering badly due to the water shortage.

He said that the industrial sector especially the small entrepreneurs were devastated as the excessive and unscheduled load shedding had ruined their small businesses besides daily wage earners losing their jobs.

Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said that during the PPP previous democratic government the it used to ensure three hours uninterrupted supply of electricity to the tube wells at affordable rates to meet the irrigation requirements. Now sporadic supply of one hour electricity to tube wells has caused acute water shortage and the resultant decline in productivity is like the economic murder of the farmers’ community, he added.

He said that the continuous shortfall of 7000 mw in the country was source of utter disappointment for the people of Pakistan because of the government had miserably failed to narrow down the gap between the demand and supply over the more than one year. It smacks of their claim of controlling it in months and not in years, he observed.

He pointed out that the present government had not added a single mw in the national grid and the Nandipur Hydel Power Project of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had proved the disaster of unimaginative proportion in terms of power generation and its competitiveness.

He recalled that the PPP government added around 3400 mw in the national grid and the scheduled load shedding then was reduced to three to four hours. He asked the Punjab Chief Minister to compare the situation of his protest then near Minar-i- Pakistan by setting up a tent beating the heat with hand fan. His sense of righteous ness is at stake indeed, he observed.
