While underscoring the importance for forging unity among the political leadership he said that the government should play a pro-active role in this regard because country needed such unity when it was in a state of war and fighting the war to save the state, its way of life and the constitution.
Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said that the government should open dialogue with the political parties those had been agitating for the acceptance of their demands. It should be the endeavor of the government to address their grievances through negotiations instead of resorting to tardiness and cauldron keep boiling, he added.
He said that in democracy you could not wrap up the things under rug adding you have to face these issues with the determination to resolve the same through engagement and reconciliation with other political forces with the spirit of accommodation and tolerance.
While commenting on the reported imitative of the Prime Minister to meet the former President, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said that PPP Co-Chairman, being a matured and wise leader, would give him good piece of advice for facilitating the continuity to the political process in the country and also seeking out whole hearted support from the political parties for the military operation in FATA.
He observed that ironically, the political leadership of the PML (N) had been victim of its delayed or no action in the past on important political issues of national importance leading to shooting its foot with its own gun. Unfortunately, we do not see a paradigm shift even now of an appropriate proportion, he added.
He said that on October 4, 1999, the whole political leadership was gathered under the banner of Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) at the residence of Ghulam Muhammab Balior in Peshawar. The whole opposition was in the street but the government led by PML (N) being the biggest stakeholder was indifferent to the whole political scenario that led to the imposition of Martial Law by General Musharraf on October 12, the same month.
